Metal detecting is allowed Wayne County parks but a permit is required. A hefty fine will be issued for those without one. Wayne County and city parks have their own rules in regards to metal detecting. Check with local authorities for these rules.
Below are typical rules and regulation outlined by most Wayne County Parks
1. A permit can be obtained at Nankin Mills for a $5 fee. See this link for location: http://www.nankinmills.org/
2. Permits will be issued for the calendar year.
3. A copy of the permit MUST be on the operators person at all times, while in the park. If your
permit is lost or unreadable, please contact the Park Office as soon as possible for a new one.
4. This permit may be cancelled or suspended by the Officer on duty whenever he/she deems the
activity is conflicting with the rules, or to be injurious and/or dangerous to person or property.
5. Metal detecting or digging on the manicured sections of grass is strictly forbidden. When in doubt, do not dig.
6. NO roadside parking is permitted. Permitees must park in open adjacent parking lots and walk to metal detecting sites.
Below are links to each of the Wayne County Park websites or maps. Note however that not all of these parks allow metal detecting. Again check with local authorities.
